Update: Person killed in hit and run on Okatie Highway named. SC police search for driver

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a collision that occurred late Sunday night on Okatie Highway, claiming the life of a pedestrian.

Dontay Frost, 39, of Ridgeland, died on scene from blunt force trauma, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.

The accident happened on Highway 170 at Broad River Bridge, the coroner’s office said.

Around 11:50 p.m. a vehicle traveling west struck Frost on Okatie Highway about five miles west of Beaufort, according to a release from Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver, who fled the scene of the accident in their car, has not yet been identified by highway patrol, the release said. The collision remains under investigation by the agency.
