Motorcyclist dies after crash on Beaufort-area highway Monday evening, Highway Patrol says

An unidentified motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in northern Beaufort County after veering off the highway and striking a tree south of Gardens Corner, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. as the Kawaski motorcycle headed south on U.S. 21 (Trask Parkway), according to Cpl. Nick Pye of the SCHP. Near the highway’s intersection with Pap Kee Lane, the motorcycle reportedly went off the right side of the road, struck a curb and then collided with a tree.

Staff at the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office had not identified the victim as of Monday morning.

Tuesday’s incident came two days after another fatal single-vehicle collision in Beaufort County, when a Mini Cooper struck a tree near the Hilton Head bridges and burst into flames, killing the driver inside.
