Jasper County coroner names Bluffton man shot to death outside Tailgators Bar & Grille

The Jasper County Coroner’s Office has named the victim of a deadly shooting at Tailgators Bar & Grille as police continued to chase leads related to the Feb. 2 incident.

Bluffton man James Reynolds, 39, died of gunshot wounds at the scene of the shooting, Jasper County Coroner Jeremiah Vaigneur II told Bluffton Today. An obituary for Reynolds was not available as of Monday, and it was unclear if funeral arrangements had been scheduled.

More than a week after the fatal gunfire, investigators did not have updates on the case’s progression or potential suspects, according to Jasper County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Christian Felt.

A 39-year-old Bluffton man was identified as the victim of a deadly Feb. 2 shooting at Tailgators Bar & Grille, located off Argent Boulevard. Restaurant staff was “committed to fully cooperating with law enforcement,” according to a Facebook post.

Shots rang out just before 1 a.m. Sunday outside the popular billiards bar, located at 1108 Argent Boulevard, police say. Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.

The Tailgators building, located at 1108 Argent Boulevard, was not damaged by gunfire, owner-operator Chris Cornell told The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette. Its business hours remained unchanged.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic incident that occurred in our parking lot last night, resulting in a loss of life,” read a statement posted on Tailgators’ Facebook page the evening after the shooting. The restaurant was “working closely” with sheriff’s office investigators and was “committed to fully cooperating with law enforcement,” the post said.
