Remains found in Bluffton woods identified as missing Hilton Head woman, police say
Skeletal remains found in the Victoria Bluff Heritage Preserve earlier this month have been confirmed as Brenda Carman, a Hilton Head woman who has been missing since August, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office alert.
Carman, 61, of Hilton Head was reported missing by her brother on Aug. 22 after numerous calls from friends and family went unanswered, according to previous reporting by the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.
Her death has been ruled a homicide.
Friends and family who were interviewed by police said the last time they had spoken with her was Aug. 9. She was last seen that same day by co-workers where she worked in the deli section of the south-end Publix on Hilton Head.
Carman’s car was found at a Hilton Head Walmart on Pembroke Drive on Sept. 9, police said in the alert.
Carman lived in Indigo Run with her long-term boyfriend.
Police had searched on Hilton Head and in Bluffton including in the nature preserve where Carman’s remains were found Nov. 14. An autopsy took place on Nov. 16 and Carman’s identity was confirmed through dental records, the Sheriff’s Office said.
No other information was immediately available, and the investigation is continuing.
