North Carolina man sentenced to 20 years for July 2021 robberies in Beaufort County
A North Carolina man pleaded guilty Thursday to pulling a gun on a store clerk in northern Beaufort County before attempting to rob another store in July 2021, according to a press release from the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Ronnie Dean Maynor, 42, of Orrum, North Carolina, was charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, jail records show.
Around 1 p.m. July 14, 2021, a clerk at a Shell food mart on Boundary Street was held at gunpoint by a man, later identified by police as Maynor, according to previous reporting by the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.
In court, Maynor said he waited for customers to leave before pointing the gun at the clerk and got scared after another customer came inside the store. Maynor left empty-handed. Around 3 p.m., at the Family Dollar Store on Sea Island Parkway, Maynor again pulled a gun on a cashier. He took $300 in that instance, according to the press release.
Maynor also admitted to stealing in Colleton County, which he drove the day of the attempted robberies. Police arrested Maynor after they found the car in the parking lot of an inn on Boundary Street.
Also at the inn were 31-year-old Dequam Youmans, of Beaufort, and E’Nisha Robinson, 26, of St. Helena. Both Youmans and Robinson were charged in July 2021 with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to previous reporting.
The 20-year sentence was handed down Thursday by Judge Brian Gibbons.
Maynor’s attorney, Colin Hamilton, could not immediately be reached for comment and, as of Thursday, Maynor was in custody at the detention center in Beaufort.
