Motorcyclist involved in crash last month on SC 170 died Monday from injuries
A motorcyclist involved in a crash last month on a section of S.C. 170 known as Okatie Highway died Monday from his injuries, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
Robert Miller, 31, of Bluffton, died Monday of trauma injuries from the crash on Oct. 21, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner Debbie Youmans.
Around 4:20 p.m. that day, Miller was headed west down Okatie Highway on a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle when an SUV was turning left from Okatie Center Boulevard South, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Pye. The two collided.
Miller was wearing a helmet, and the driver of the SUV was wearing a seat belt, according to Pye.
Miller was airlifted to a local trauma center following the crash, Bluffton Township Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Randy Hunter told The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette at the time.
Approximately 19 people have died on Beaufort County roads in 2021, according to data from the Department of Public Safety.
The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
