Police: Hilton Head man charged with sexual assault; met 12-year-old girl on Facebook
Dec. 23, 2020, update: Through a forensic examination of the electronics seized during the initial arrest, police identified an additional victim, a minor living outside South Carolina, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maj. Bob Bromage. Schultheis shared and solicited child sexual abuse imagery, the investigation found. On Dec. 22, Schultheis was again arrested and charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor third degree and one count of disseminating obscene material to a person under 18, according to Beaufort County Detention Center records.
A 22-year-old Hilton Head Island man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he met on Facebook, police said.
Timothy Schultheis was charged Friday morning with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16 in the second degree by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Schultheis picked up the girl in Aiken, S.C., and brought her back to his apartment on Hilton Head Island this week, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies arrested Schultheis, and he was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center at around 3 a.m. Friday, jail records show.
Schultheis was released on a $15,000 surety bond Friday afternoon, according to court records.
Under S.C. law, criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16 in the second degree is felony and, upon conviction, could bring up to 20 years in prison.
