Charges dropped against SC fire chief’s son-in-law, grandson accused of beating him

Charges against the son-in-law and grandson of the Levy Fire Department chief - accused of assaulting him in June - have been dropped.

The 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office dropped the assault and battery charges against Aaron Saxon, 41, the chief’s son-in-law, and Christian Saxon, 23, the chief’s grandson.

Levy Fire Department Chief Doug Graham “no longer wants to cooperate with the prosecution of this matter and the case cannot be proven without his assistance,” wrote Administrative Solicitor Patrick A. Hall in a court filing on August 27.

Both Saxons were charged with assault and battery in the second degree by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office on June 17. Christian Saxon faced an additional charge for pointing and presenting a firearm.

Jasper County Sheriff Chris Malphrus said just after the incident - which came after a family argument turned violent - that Graham was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital for treatment of his injuries

In an interview on Wednesday, Aaron Saxon called the charges “trumped up” and said he is seeking to have them expunged from his record.

“My name has been dragged through the mud,” he said.
