Man charged with raping 20-year-old woman after night out in downtown Beaufort, police say

A Beaufort man faces a rape charge stemming from an attack reported Saturday night in the downtown area, according to police.

The Beaufort Police Department charged Christopher Binot, 24, on Monday with one count of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, according to jail records.

Binot is accused of raping a 20-year-old woman after a night out drinking on Scott Street, according to Capt. George Erdel of the Beaufort Police Department.

Criminal sexual conduct in the third degree is a felony. Conviction can result in a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Binot posted bond on Wednesday afternoon, which was set at $25,000, according to court and jail records.
