19-year-old man charged with attempted murder in Aug. 7 Hilton Head shooting, warrants say

A 19-year-old Hilton Head Island man was charged with attempted murder Thursday in connection with a shooting earlier this month at the Hilton Head Gardens apartment complex, according to arrest warrants.

Izavea Singletary, 19, was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, jail records show.

Singletary is accused of shooting a man in the groin just after midnight on August 7 at the complex on Southwood Park Drive, a warrant states.

The victim was released from Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah a few days after the incident and is still recovering, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage.

The warrant alleges Singletary “fle(d) the scene on foot, fail(ed)to render aid to the victim, and fail(ed) to contact law enforcement or emergency medical services.”

Deputies responded to a shots fired call early that Friday morning to find the victim with a gunshot wound and a group of people running away from the scene, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The officers interviewed apartment residents and identified “persons of interest.”

“The (shooting) was documented on surveillance recordings and the defendant was later identified by multiple individuals,” the arrest warrant states.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, said Bromage.

Singletary is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. His bond is set at $110,000, according to jail and court records.
