Hardeeville woman charged in July 12 crash that killed Bluffton woman on her way to church
A Hardeeville woman has been charged in a fatal crash that killed a Bluffton woman on her way to church earlier this month, according to authorities.
Dezsiree Dunham, 30, of Hardeeville was charged with reckless homicide Wednesday, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Matt Southern.
Dunham crashed head-on with another vehicle on S.C. 46 on July 12, Southern said.
The other driver, identified as Josephine Rocca, 82, of Bluffton, died of her injuries at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, according to Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls.
Rocca was on her way to church in Hardeeville.
The crash occurred on Plantation Drive near Jenkins Road at 9:50 a.m., according to Southern.
Dunham has three prior traffic convictions, including a first offense DUI in March 2016, for which she paid a fine, according to court records. She has also been convicted of child endangerment and public disorderly conduct. She also has a pending charge of reckless driving from April 27 of this year, the records show.
Dunham was hospitalized following the collision and taken into custody by SCHP upon her release, Southern said.
She was sent to Jasper County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
Southern said the collision remains under investigation by SCHP.
