18-year-old faces attempted murder charges in St. Helena gas station shooting

A St. Helena man wanted by police after they say he shot someone at a gas station on Sea Island Parkway in early April turned himself in and was charged Monday morning.

Deavion Burgess, 18, of St. Helena Island faces charges of two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Burgess turned himself in to authorities with the help of his attorney Monday morning, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage.

The Sheriff’s Office previously put out a notice that he was wanted. They said he fled the parking lot of a Tiger Express gas station on St. Helena Island in April “after firing multiple bullets into a parked vehicle.”

One man was injured in the shooting and transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, said Bromage.

Burgess’ bond has not yet been set, according to court records.
