Man, 18, wanted by police on attempted murder charges in St. Helena gas station shooting

Police are looking for a young man who they say shot a man at a St. Helena Island gas station in early April and is “armed and dangerous.”

Deavion Burgess, 18, of St. Helena Island has warrants out for his arrest on two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting on April 3 occurred in the parking lot of a Tiger Express gas station on Sea Island Parkway, where deputies say Burgess fled “after firing multiple bullets into a parked vehicle.”

Two people were in the parked car: one man was uninjured, and the other was shot and transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Bob Bromage.

A release from the Sheriff’s Office said investigators identified Burgess after interviewing witnesses of the shooting, reviewing video footage, and looking at forensic evidence.
