Police looking for vehicle seen in area where woman was shot while jogging in Beaufort
Investigators are looking for more information about a vehicle seen in the area where a 72-year-old woman was shot while jogging Wednesday in Beaufort.
Witnesses told police the woman was on Lafayette Street near Basil Green Complex in Pigeon Point when a vehicle pulled in front of her and a man got out and began firing a handgun Wednesday afternoon, Beaufort Police Department said in a release.
Police on Thursday released images from surveillance cameras of what they believe is a 2010-2012 Nissan Versa seen in the area at the time of the shooting. The front right quarter panel appears to be separated from the front bumper, and there’s also a dent on the back right quarter panel, police said.
Investigators described the suspected shooter as a dark-skinned white or Hispanic man between 20-30 years old and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build. He was wearing a light-colored shirt and baggy pants and driving a white or silver four-door hatchback, police said.
The woman was shot at least once and taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital before being flown to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Police said the woman was stabilized before she was transported, but her condition wasn’t immediately known Thursday.
Pigeon Point is a community north of downtown Beaufort with a large park, a boat landing and the county-operated sports fields at Basil Green not far from Beaufort National Cemetery.
