72-year-old woman jogging in the city of Beaufort shot Wednesday, police say
A 72-year-old woman was shot at least once while jogging in Beaufort’s Pigeon Point neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, a city of Beaufort Police Department news release said.
Witnesses reported the victim was jogging west on Lafayette Street near the Basil Green sports complex when a vehicle pulled in front of her.
A man aged 20-30 got out on the driver’s side of the car and fired a number of shots at the woman with a handgun, the release said.
“The victim was struck at least once by gunfire and transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where she was stabilized prior to being taken to MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina by air ambulance,” the release said.
He was wearing a light colored shirt and baggy pants and driving a white or silver four-door hatchback, the release said.
