Update: Driver with ‘critical’ injuries airlifted after Hardeeville shooting Wednesday

The investigation into a Hardeeville shooting stretched into the night Wednesday, and one person was transported by helicopter to a local hospital.

Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward said a call reporting shots fired in an apartment complex on Walsh Drive came in around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A short distance away, on Main Street, officers found the driver of a gray Chevrolet Malibu with injuries Woodward characterized as “critical” and “life-threatening.” The driver was taken to Savannah Memorial University Medical Center.

More information about that person was not immediately available on Thursday morning.

Residents had been alerted to expect a “heavy police presence” in the Walsh Drive area while the investigation was ongoing.

Woodward said the S.C. Law Enforcement Division was called in because there were multiple crime scenes.

He said some possible suspects had been identified, but no arrests had been made as of 10 a.m. Thursday.

The investigation led officers into Beaufort County, Woodward said, but there was nothing to indicate the Hardeeville case is connected to a shooting of a 72-year-old jogger in Beaufort on Wednesday afternoon.
