Georgia teen dies after being struck by SUV in Jasper County, officials say
A Georgia teen was killed Thursday night after being struck by an SUV in Jasper County, according to officials.
About 8:30 p.m., a 2007 Suzuki SUV was traveling west on Rice Shire Road when it hit a pedestrian, who later died at the scene, S.C. Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Sonny Collins said.
The pedestrian was identified as 18-year-old Marlon Jose Navas Flores Jr. of Norcross, Georgia, Jasper County coroner Martin Sauls said.
No charges have been filed in the collision, but it is still under investigation, Collins said.
The driver was the only person in the car and did not sustain any injuries, according to the initial report.
Rice Shire Road is off Bees Creek Road in Ridgeland.
A previous pedestrian death
Highway Patrol is still searching for a suspect in an unrelated hit-and-run incident that killed a pedestrian in Jasper County late last year. About 11:36 p.m. on Nov. 22, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on Deerfield Road near Purrysburg Road, then left the scene. The pedestrian was immediately taken to the hospital and died there two weeks later.
Troopers still don’t know who was driving the vehicle or its make and model, but they believe it had front-end damage on the headlights, hood and grille.
