Suspects arrested for robbing Burger King, hotel in Beaufort last summer, police say

A St. Helena Island man was arrested Friday for robbing a Burger King and Country Inn & Suites last summer, according to a Beaufort Police Department news release.

Ricardo Turner, 32, was arrested at a home on Levant Byas Road and transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he remained incarcerated as of Saturday afternoon, according to jail records.

He faces two counts each of armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Turner and an accomplice, 30-year-old Dominic Javon Gilbert of Seabrook, allegedly robbed the Burger King on Ribaut Road on June 11 and the Country Inn and Suites on Boundary Street on July 29, the news release said.

Gilbert was arrested on January 21 and faces the same charges as Turner.

Police say the pair may be linked to other robberies in the Beaufort area.

Anyone with information about either suspect can call Beaufort Police Master Sgt. Charles Raley at 843-322-7914 or the anonymous tip line at 843-322-7938.

The Beaufort Police Department, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, S.C. Law Enforcement Division, and the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force all assisted in Turner’s arrest.

A separate suspect, 32-year-old Brandon Lee Simmons of Hilton Head, was arrested June 21 for a similar robbery at the same Burger King just a week before Turner and Gilbert’s alleged robbery. His charges are still pending, according to Beaufort County court documents.
