Teen killed in Bluffton parking lot was senior at Hilton Head High and a ‘good friend’

Trey Blackshear, the 18 year old who was found murdered in the parking lot of a Bluffton church Monday afternoon, was a senior at Hilton Head Island High School who loved soccer and was known for his humor and joy.

He always had a smile on his face, friend and classmate Chris Narvaez told The Island Packet on Tuesday.

“He was a good friend,” Narvaez said. “Honestly, he was very, very funny and it hurts to see my friend go.”

Blackshear was found shot and killed in the Lord of Life Lutheran Church parking lot along Buckwalter Parkway.

The shooting happened around 2:20 p.m. just two days before Christmas Day.

Bluffton Police Department responded to the scene along with about a dozen of Blackshear’s friends and family members.

A post on the police department’s Facebook page said officers are looking for two suspects. It said police don’t believe Blackshear or the suspects are affiliated with the church.

Bluffton Police spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz said police believe the two suspects fled to the Bluewater gas station across the street from the church where they were picked up.

After Blackshear’s death, friends and family posted condolences and tributes on social media.

No description or identifying information about the suspects was released.

Babkiewicz said the investigation is still ongoing.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen was at the church around 4:30 p.m. Monday. A silver Honda Accord believed to belong to Blackshear was towed from the scene around 5:15 p.m.

Anyone with information about the shooting, may call Bluffton Police Department’s Tip Line at 843-706-4560 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
