Hardeeville man pleads guilty, sentenced to 18 years in 2016 Jasper County killing
A 22-year-old Hardeeville man who shot and killed a fellow Jasper County resident in 2016 faces 18 years in prison, according to a 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office news release.
Kelly Lamont Anderson pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Kenyatta Austin.
Austin, 43, was found dead inside a mobile home on Stiney Road around 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2016.
After neighbors noticed Austin’s front door was open, they went inside and found him lying face down between two couches with a gunshot wound to his head, according to the release and previous reporting from The Island Packet.
Investigators found a cell phone belonging to Anderson inside the home, and he was later arrested at a nearby motel.
Previously, Anderson was convicted of public disorderly conduct in 2014 and shoplifting in 2016.
