1 dead and 1 wounded in shooting at Beaufort area gas station, police say

One person is dead and another injured after a shootout Monday night in the parking lot of a Circle K gas station on Lady’s Island, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office alert says.
The Sheriff’s Office responded about 9 p.m. to a call about shots fired between occupants of two to three vehicles at the convenience store located at 114 Sea Island Parkway, also known as Highway 21.
A vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was located soon after in the parking lot of Professional Village on Sunset Boulevard. Professional Village is about 0.3 miles from the gas station and sits behind Sonic.
Two occupants in the vehicle were wounded during the exchange of gunfire, the alert says. One of the occupants has died from the injuries and the other was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Occupants in the other vehicle or vehicles have yet to be located, the alert issued about 11 p.m. says.
“The scene is secure, and the shooting incident is under investigation,” the alert says. “.....There does not appear to be a public safety threat.”
The vehicles left the location prior to police arrival, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office alert said.
