Okatie parents looking for help to find daughter missing since Friday
Two Beaufort County parents are searching for their 15-year-old daughter after she stormed out of their Okatie home Friday evening.
Lillian Young returned home from May River High School Friday afternoon and got into an argument with her parents said her father, William. Around 6 p.m. Friday, she stormed out of their house, her father said.
“We live in a pretty remote area, so when this happened we gave her a little time to cool down before we went to pick her up,” he said. “But she evaded us.”
They reported her to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office as a runaway roughly an hour and a half later, he said, around 8 p.m.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Bob Bromage confirmed on Sunday that Lillian Young had run away and was missing. She’s about 5-foot-6 with green eyes and shoulder length brown hair, he said. He encouraged everyone in Beaufort and Jasper counties near Okatie to keep a look out for the missing girl and alert authorities if she’s seen.
By around 6:30, Lillian Young had made her way to the River’s End subdivision, her father said, where she stopped to talk with friends.
“The girls said she stopped there and talked with them for a bit,” William Young said of his daughter’s friends. “Those are the last people we know that had eyes on her.”
William Young said he and his wife Jenny have had no contact with their daughter since she left.
“My wife and I and her sister are worried to death about her,” he said. “We’ve contacted every person that we can think she might seek safe harbor from, and nobody is helping her.”
The concern at the moment, according to her father, is that she might be staying with a stranger or otherwise putting herself in a dangerous situation. Her family is doing everything they can to find her, he said.
“We’ve put up fliers all over Hardeeville,” he said. “We’re going to Beaufort, Ridgeland, Bluffton, trying to get the word out.
If you have information on the whereabouts of Lillian Young, contact the Sheriff’s Office emergency dispatch at 843-524-2777 or her family at 843-368-1800.
