Six purses worth nearly $1,400 were stolen from a Bluffton store on Saturday and the fashion-conscious thieves have yet to be caught.

An employee of the Kate Spade store on Fording Island Road told a deputy that two women entered the store at about 5 p.m. Saturday. While the employee was assisting another customer, an employee from a nearby store told her the two women were leaving without paying for merchandise, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

The employee attempted to follow the women out the door and saw them drive away in a gray Honda Accord with Georgia tags, but she was unable to get the license plate information.

She described the suspects as two black women in their early 20s, who both appeared to be about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weigh approximately 145 pounds. She described one of the suspects as a black female with dark brown hair in a bob haircut, wearing all black. She described the other suspect as a light-skinned black female wearing jeans and a mustard-colored top with light brown hair in a bob haircut.

The business does not have security cameras, according to the report.

This was not the first time handbag thieves struck the Bluffton store. In August, nine handbags worth more than $1,500 were also stolen from the store.
