Bluffton man claimed he was assaulted. Now he’s the one who faces charges.
A Bluffton man has been charged with filing a false police report, trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia after he alleged that another man assaulted him while armed at a Buck Island Road home Wednesday afternoon.
Several members of the Bluffton Police Department were called around 1:45 p.m. to the residence, where Nathaniel Jenkins, 55, told investigators he had been assaulted by a man who lived at the home, according to Joy Nelson, spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department.
Jenkins said he had been visiting the home when the alleged assault happened and that the assailant went back inside the home. Police set up a perimeter around the home only to find that the accused man was not there.
Investigators determined that the accused man does not have a gun and never threatened Jenkins with one, Nelson said on Thursday.
The accused man told police he had shoved Jenkins in an attempt to get him to leave his property. He was not charged with a crime.
Filing a false police report is a felony, according to Beaufort County Detention Center records.
As of 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jenkins remained in custody at the detention center on a bond of $1,552.50.
