A yard debris fire the Burton Fire District said was left alone by a homeowner got out of control, destroyed a shed and damaged the home.

The fire, reported just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, was the third in the district on the same day, district spokesman Dan Byrne said.

Firefighters were called to the home at Trask Parkway and Indol Road and found the unattended fire closing in on a home, where heat caused considerable damage to vinyl siding, Byrne said.

The fire was hot enough to also melt a window, and was seconds from getting inside the house, said Lt. Bobby Davidson, the first officer to arrive at the property.

The fire district started its firefighting Thursday with a 2:30 a.m. blaze that destroyed a mobile home on Broad River Boulevard. A trash fire in front of a Joe Frazier Road home had to be put out around 9 a.m.

No injuries were reported from the fires.
