Rifle found, suspect sought in attempted-Beaufort traffic stop
Deputies have recovered the rifle a man wielded while running from a Beaufort traffic stop on Saturday, but not the suspect himself, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
The 22-caliber gun was located by a K-9 officer in the woods near Joe Frazier Road and Burton Wells, where the suspect was pulled over for speeding, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Bob Bromage said.
The suspect, who immediately ran into the woods with the rifle, was not found, Bromage said.
He was described as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks, and was wearing a red hat, red shirt and blue jeans, Bromage said.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
