Shrimpers delight in Beaufort dock's reopening
Shrimp beware: The floating dock at Beaufort's Pigeon Point Landing is back open following repairs.
In August, a fisherman reported the dock at the end of Pigeon Point Road felt unsteady, and it was closed. The dock was shipped to a contractor for repairs.
The work cost about $25,000, which came from money the city budgeted for unexpected repairs. Significant boat wakes in the area could have caused structural problems over time, public works director Lamar Taylor said.
Recreational shrimpers toting cast nets crowded the dock this weekend after its return.
