National TV shows hosted by well-known actors are calling on beautiful Beaufort by the sea again.

Producers from CNBC’s educational documentary program, “Now We Know,” are the latest to approach the coastal South Carolina city about appearing on a segment of the show, said Ashley Brandon, the city’s public information officer.

The educational TV show, which airs at noon on Saturdays, is hosted by Steve Guttenberg, an actor known for roles in popular 1980s and 1990s films like “Police Academy,” “Three Men and a Baby” and “Cocoon.” It focuses on innovations in business, tech and culture and reaches about 85 million households.

Brandon, City Manager Scott Marshall and Mayor Phil Cromer met Oct. 7 with producer Will Barnes. The show is focusing on exploring cities, they were told, and Beaufort will be one of the first.

If approved by council, producing the segment would cost the city about $25,000, officials said. In return, the city will retain the rights to rebroadcast or share the video segment. The funding is available in the city’s Parks and Tourism Fund.

The City Council must still vote on whether to commit the funds for the CNBC project. Mayor Cromer noted at a work session on Tuesday that national exposure would benefit tourism in Beaufort and also be timely, because 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Barnes, the producer, said the show would be aligned with the city on the “right messaging.” “Me and my team are never going to know as much about Beaufort as you do,” he said.

Beaufort was featured on Fox’s “Fox & Friends” program Aug. 19 as part of its “Main Street USA Tour. Local businesses, history and community traditions like the daily Pledge of Allegiance at Blackstone’s Cafe were highlighted.

Host Steve Doocy began the broadcast along the waterfront with Bonnie Gordon, the owner of Southern Sweets, who recommended the show pay a visit to Beaufort.
