Where’s Sophia Van Dam and her son? Beaufort family can’t find them. It’s been 12 days
A 20-year-old woman formerly of Beaufort and her 2-year-old son haven’t been seen in almost two weeks and her family wants help from the public in locating them.
Sophia Van Dam and son Matteo were last seen in Beaufort June 24, before driving to Sumter, where they had recently moved.
But since then, family members and law enforcement have been unable to reach Van Dam, Desiree Pevey, Van Dam’s sister, told the Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet on Wednesday.
Her car was found in the driveway of her Sumter home, but there’s been no sign of her or Matteo, her sister said.
“Right now this is an active investigation,” Pevey said. “As a family, we are not being told anything other then they are still missing.”
Sumter Police and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office previously sent out “missing” alerts via Facebook asking the public if they see Van Dam and her son to contact them.
The National Center For Missing and Endangered, Inc. is publicizing the case, too.
Van Dam attended Battery Creek High School in Beaufort. She is the daughter of Henry (Jim) and Theresa Van Dam, who still live in Beaufort.
For the past two months, she had been living in Sumter with her son and boyfriend, said Pevey.
“Right now we’re just asking that people be on the lookout for Sophia and Matteo,” she said.
If anyone has any information please contact Lt. Angie Crumpton with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 843-255-3409 or the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700.
