A five-story hotel — the third hotel planned at a busy Beaufort intersection aimed at tourists and military-related travelers — will be back before the Beaufort Design Review Board Thursday.

A Desai Hotel is proposed at 12 County Shed Road at Parris Island Gateway and Trask Parkway, about a mile from the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort gate.

Two hotels — Tru by Hilton Beaufort and Home2 Suites by Hilton Beaufort — already have been constructed at that location.

Savannah-based HD Cos. Developers is developing the hotels on a 10-acre tract in hopes the proximity to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort will attract those visiting or working at the base. It’s also targeting visitors to the city’s coastline, noting that the hotels are next to the Spanish Moss Trail.

DJ Desai, founder of HD Cos., has said previously that the hotels will offer tourists and military travelers something different from what already is available in the community.

A previous application for the project received preliminary approval with conditions in August 2020.

In the latest application, the hotel’s height increased from 58 feet to almost 71 feet, according to city documents. Planners, in their staff report, are recommending a reduction in the height of the penthouses and possibly eliminating the elevator penthouse.
