Public can remember Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy on Friday. Here are the plans
The city of Beaufort announced parking and traffic plans for a public memorial service planned Friday for Police Chief Matt Clancy.
The service will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park and is expected to end at 9:40 a.m. Those who attend should arrive no later than 8:25 a.m. and are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing, a city release said.
The Beaufort Downtown Marina parking lot will be closed, but parking will be free throughout other areas of downtown, including the Port Republic Square parking lot at Charles and Craven streets; the lot at 500 Carteret St.; and at the First Presbyterian Church at North and Newcastle streets.
The service will be shown live on www.facebook.com/CityBeaufortSC and on the County Channel at www.beaufortcountysc.gov/the-county-channel/live.html.
Traffic on Bay, Carteret and Boundary streets will be affected from 9:30-10 a.m. to allow the funeral procession to travel to Beaufort National Cemetery for a private burial ceremony.
Clancy, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from the Citadel before his career in law enforcement, will be buried with full military honors.
Clancy, 56, died July 29 after battling cancer for several years.
