Another new business is coming to the former Beaufort Kmart. Here’s what’s planned
Another new business will help fill a vacated big box store in Beaufort.
Barbers of the Lowcountry plans to move into one of the retail spaces in the newly renovated former Kmart building in Beaufort Town Center on Boundary Street. The Bluffton barbers announced the plans to add a Beaufort location this month and hope to open in January.
The shop offers an old-fashioned atmosphere aimed at men, with straight-razor shaves, hot towels, beard trims and other specialty services.
Owner Brent Nelsen and his father, Lou, started their shop in 1997. Bill Rickett is leaving the Bluffton shop in Sheridan Park to lead the new operation and will have a new staff for Beaufort, the store announced.
Kmart closed in the shopping center in 2017 and the 94,000-square-foot building has been transformed into a variety of retail spaces.
Grounded Running moved its store into one of the spaces. Wild Birds Unlimited recently celebrated its grand opening in the shopping center, selling bird food, feeders and related products. Hank’s Lowcountry She Crab Soup plans to open a cafe.
A CBD chain store recently added a location in the shopping center, and Wet Willie’s, reopened under new management, serves frozen alcoholic beverages and craft beer.
