Four days after a Beaufort County man was shot in Burton, a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the afternoon shooting.

Michael Kearney, of Port Royal, was arrested Saturday and faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to online Beaufort County Detention Center records. His bond and court information were not available in online Beaufort County court documents on Monday morning.

Kearney allegedly shot a man near Milledge Village Road and Lexxus Lane on Tuesday afternoon, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bob Bromage said Monday morning.

At the time, neighbors reported hearing a single gun shot, but no one immediately reported seeing what happened, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. One witness ran to the victim after hearing the shot and seeing the man on the ground.

The victim was initially taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and and later transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. No update was available on his condition on Monday, Bromage said.
