Hardeeville man identified as victim in deadly train crash
A Hardeeville man has been identified as the victim of a vehicle and freight train crash that happened Thursday evening.
Carl Williams, 65, was alone in the vehicle that was struck on the railroad tracks at the Church Road crossing in Hardeeville and died at the scene, according to Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls III.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. and the train was removed from the crossing by 8 p.m. No one on board was injured, according to a City of Hardeeville news release.
Further information on the conditions of the crash has yet to be released.
In August, a woman faced criminal charges after her vehicle got stuck on the same tracks and was hit by an oncoming passenger train. No one was injured, but the train sustained about $100,000 in damage.
