It’s Time to Eat, Beaufort — there’s a new food truck in town
A meal on wheels has made its way to Beaufort.
The Time to Eat LLC food truck opened for its first day of business Wednesday in the Beaufort Town Center parking lot.
“Me and my husband dreamed of this for three years,” said co-owner Daniela Goodman. “Three years we talked about it, and we finally made it happen.”
Though neither of them have restaurant experience, Goodman and her husband, Hassan, decided to partner with Freddie Brantley, Hassan’s father, and buy a truck in Miami, giving it a custom paint job with caricatures of the Goodmans.
“Just the artwork alone brings a lot of people,” Daniela Goodman said.
Time to Eat will serve hot wings, burgers, fries, fish and chips, sausage, peppers and onions and even ribs or Caribbean style foods on certain days.
“Some weeks we may have a special of the day where we’re doing like collard greens and neck bones and different things like that,” she said.
Food trucks have been a hot topic in Beaufort County, with discussion about allowing them within the town limits of Bluffton or on on Hilton Head Island.
In Beaufort, food trucks are allowed in shopping centers and commercial areas with at least four businesses and the approval of the property owner.
City officials considered changing food truck rules beginning in August. Beaufort City Councilman Stephen Murray said Friday that the review of the city’s new code was on the agenda for the Nov. 8 meeting.
Goodman said she and her husband have attended meetings like the ones in Bluffton where regulations on food trucks have been considered. She thinks more people will start their own food trucks as they become more accessible.
“(Officials) are making it now where the rules and regulations are not as bad,” she said. “They’re being more lenient, and making it easier for us to maneuver ... and do things we need to do.”
For now, Time to Eat plans on parking from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays in the Beaufort Town Center parking lot. In the future, they expect to stop in other locations and participate in food truck festivals.
Goodman said their first day was a learning experience.
“It’s exciting, it’s nerve-wracking, but we can do it,” she said.
