A planned Boundary Street lane shift in Beaufort has been a delayed a week due to weather, a city news release said.

The new traffic pattern was expected to begin Monday but will now start Oct. 3. Boundary Street traffic will be shifted to the south side of Boundary Street to allow for a utility bank to be built on the north side.

A similar duct bank has already been built on the south side to allow utilities to be buried.

Drivers are asked to use caution during the work. Left turns will continue to be limited to intersections with traffic lights.

Four lanes will remain open.

The $33 million Boundary Street project will include raised medians, slightly narrower lanes, wider pathways and a realigned intersection at Robert Smalls Parkway.

The project is expected to be completed in 2018.
