Panel will consider redrawing Lady’s Island growth boundary
Changes could be coming to how far the city of Beaufort can reach onto Lady’s Island.
The Northern Beaufort County Regional Plan Implementation Committee will consider a resolution to redraw the growth boundary on Lady’s Island. At issue is the stretch of Sea Island Parkway from the new Walmart site at Airport Circle to Chowan Creek Bridge.
The issue has been raised as the city annexes property along Sea Island Parkway. A tract eyed for a new Taco Bell was recently brought into the city and zoned at the intersection of Lost Island Road, not far from the Walmart shopping center under construction.
Planning departments from the city and county have been looking at the corridor, and a traffic study is underway.
The planning committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Beaufort County Administration Building’s executive conference room, 100 Ribaut Road in Beaufort.
Also on the agenda is a project to assess infrastructure as it relates to sea level rise as part of the Joint Land Use Study.
