Labor Day weekend is here, meaning that residents and visitors are ready to soak up the last bits of summer fun.

But as the holiday weekend kicks off and many prepare to enjoy the long weekend, it can be easy to forget a few things from your grocery list or beach bag.

Here’s everything that will be opened and closed in the Beaufort County area on Labor Day, along with travel and weather tips to keep in mind as the weekend begins.

Grocery store Labor Day hours

  • Food Lion: All locations will be open normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Kroger: Locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Pharmacy hours will vary
  • Walmart: Locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Aldi: Opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. on Labor Day.
  • Publix: All locations will be open for normal business hours, but pharmacies will be closed on Labor Day.
  • Harris Teeter: All locations are open for normal business hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pharmacy hours may vary.
  • The Fresh Market: Open for normal hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Target: Open for normal hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sam’s Club: Sam’s Club Plus members have early shopping access starting at 8 a.m., while regular Club members’ hours start at 10 a.m. Stores will close for all members at 6 p.m.
  • Piggly Wiggly: Both Hilton Head and Port Royal locations will be open.

City & County offices

  • Town of Bluffton: Town of Bluffton offices and the Welcome Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, and will reopen to regular hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
  • Town of Hilton Head: Town of Hilton Head offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, and will reopen to regular hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
  • City of Beaufort: City of Beaufort offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, and will reopen to regular hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
  • Town of Port Royal: Offices for the Town of Port Royal will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, and will reopen to regular hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
  • All Beaufort County offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, and will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Convenience centers, mail, banks & emergency services

All Convenience Centers in Beaufort County will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, and will resume their normal operating schedules Tuesday, Sept. 2.

U.S. Postal Service, UPS and FedEx are all closed on Labor Day. Banks will also be closed for the holiday.

Emergency services such as police and fire will remain available.

Airports & travel

Operations at the Hilton Head Island Airport and Beaufort Executive Airport will be available during the Labor Day holiday.

South Carolina’s new hands-free driving law begins on Sept. 1.

This new law prohibits drivers from using mobile electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle, with specific exceptions. These include using a device in hands-free mode, such as through CarPlay or voice-activated communication, to listen to music or use navigation systems.

Violations can result in fines of up to $200 and two points deducted from a driver’s license.

Mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching a high of 84 degrees and a low of 70. There is a 40% chance of showers during the day and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 1:

Mostly sunny, with a high of 84 degrees and a low of 70. There is a 40% chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 30% of showers in the evening.
