3 outdoor movie theaters to visit in Hilton Head & Beaufort this summer
There’s something undeniably nostalgic and magical about watching a movie outdoors.
Whether you’re craving a retro drive-in experience, a family-friendly community night or a casual dinner-and-a-movie setup, the Lowcountry has you covered with three standout outdoor theaters.
Here’s when and where you can roll out a blanket, tune in and enjoy classic movies with a Lowcountry summer breeze.
Hwy 21 Drive-In: 55 Parker Drive, Beaufort
For a true throwback experience with a bit of a modern twist, head to the Hwy 21 Drive-In, the Lowcountry’s only drive-in movie theater that’s been in operation since 1978.
Open Thursday through Sunday, this charming venue features three screens showing classics and the latest film releases starting at 8:30 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, the fun doubles with back-to-back showings.
Movie showings range from kid-friendly classics like “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Karate Kid,” along with some newer films like the live-action “Lilo & Stitch” and “A Minecraft Movie.”
They also offer movie screenings for adults, like John Wick’s “Ballerina” and “Materialist.”
Ticket costs:
Adults 13 and up: $11
Children aged 5-12: $6
Children under 4: Free
Military & seniors: $9
While the drive-in has had some modern upgrades, including new lighting and sound technology, it’s kept the timelessness that makes outdoor movies special.
The Hwy 21 Drive-In also offers a concession stand with fan favorite movie snacks like funnel cake. The theater sits in a wooded area, so don’t forget your bug spray and arrive early for the best parking spots.

From June 12 through August 14, the park screens family-friendly movies every Thursday evening, all shown on a 20-foot inflatable screen as the sun dips behind Broad Creek.
Movie screenings begin at 8:30 p.m., rain or shine. Some upcoming movies include “Inside Out 2,” “Despicable Me 4,” and “Encanto.”
These movies are free to attend, just make sure to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets and bug spray.
If you’re hoping for some movie-time snacks, you can visit nearby restaurants like Wayback Burgers or satisfy your sweet tooth with a treat from Kilwins or Crumbl Cookies.
