Savannah Memorial Health limits entrances to hospital for coronavirus screening

Savannah Memorial Health is limiting entrances for coronavirus screening, a press release says.

South Carolina and Savannah had no cases of the novel COVID-19 diseases confirmed as of Thursday morning.

Cases have been confirmed in Florida, North Carolina and the Atlanta area of Georgia.

COVID-19 is a specific disease from the coronavirus family, which also causes the common cold and more severe illnesses such as SARS and MERS.

Hospital visitors will be directed to certain entrances during specific times:

  • Emergency Room (open 24 hours)
  • Main hospital entrance (6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily)
  • Heart and Vascular Institute (5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily)
  • Day Surgery (4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday)
  • Out Patient Services at Building 100 (5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday)
  • Pre-surgery Testing (7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday)
  • Anderson Cancer Institute (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday)

Visitors or patients will be screened by greeters at each of the entrances, the release says.

“This includes a list of basic questions to help ensure that individuals who might spread the virus get the care they need while not exposing patients, staff or other guests,” the release says.

Visitors with a fever, cough, shortness of breath who have traveled outside the U.S. in the past 14 days — or had direct contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 — are asked not to visit.
