No signs of foul play in fatal Beaufort apartment fire, police say
A preliminary autopsy on a woman killed in a Beaufort apartment fire Sunday showed only injuries related to the fire and determined there were no signs of foul play, according to police.
The fire began in the woman’s closed bedroom where she was found, said Beaufort Police Capt. George Erdel.
Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Joy Elizabeth Troupe, 46, who was discovered at her apartment on Greenlawn Drive near Beaufort Town Center around 2 p.m. Sunday.
After extinguishing the fire in about 5 minutes, firefighters found Troupe’s body.
Erdel said a toxicology report is still pending.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the S.C. Law Enforcement Division, according to Erdel.
