Savannah airport announces new budget flights to 5 cities. Where will you go?
The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is beginning new flights to six new cities, according to a news release from Allegiant Airlines, the airline operating all of the new routes.
The airport, which is about 40 minutes southwest of Beaufort County, will soon be connected to Chicago; Houston; Hudson Valley, New York; Belleville, Illinois; and Punta Gorda, Florida, via nonstop flights.
Allegiant boasted super-low fares for the seasonal flights, which carry restrictions but can drop as low as $33 each way.
The flights are scheduled to start in late May and early June.
Here’s a breakdown of the new flights and when they start:
Nonstop: Chicago
The flights to Chicago will run through Midway Airport and start on May 21.
Flights to Midway will operate twice weekly. Midway airport is nine miles from Chicago’s city center.
Rates for the flights are $33 each way if purchased by Jan. 16 for travel by Nov. 15, the release said.
Delta Air Lines and United Airlines currently service the airport by connecting through other airports, according to Google Flights.
Nonstop: Houston
The flights to the Texas city will run through William Hobby Airport and start on May 28.
Flights to Houston will also operate twice weekly. The Hobby airport is nine miles from the city’s center.
One-way flights are also priced at $33 if purchased by Jan. 16 for travel by Nov. 15, the release said.
Delta, United and American Airlines all currently service the airport by connecting through other cities, Google Flights shows.
Nonstop: Hudson Valley, NY
The flights to the Hudson Valley, just south of Poughkeepsie, will run through New York Stewart International Airport and start on May 20.
One-way flights are priced at $55, but the release did not give restrictions on the purchase or travel.
Allegiant will be the first airline to service Savannah from Hudson Valley, according to Google Flights.
The flights will be twice weekly, the release said.
Nonstop: Belleville, IL
Flights to Belleville, just southeast of St. Louis, will run twice-weekly through MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.
The flights will start June 6.
One-way tickets are priced at $55 but must be purchased by Jan. 16 for travel by Aug. 15.

Nonstop: Punta Gorda, FL
Flights to the Gulf-side city south of Tampa will run twice weekly through the Punta Gorda Airport.
The flights also start June 6.
One-way tickets are priced at $44 but must be purchased by Jan. 16 for travel by Aug. 15.
