New details released in death of child who was fatally injured after Bluffton parade
The ongoing investigation of the 5-year-old’s death following the Bluffton Christmas Parade on Dec. 7 showed that Ameer Frazier died from blunt force head trauma, deputy coroner Debbie Youmans told The Island Packet on Monday.
Frazier was severely injured at the end of the parade as all the floats and vehicles were disbanding in the Red Cedar Elementary School parking lot. He died after he was transported by EMS to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, officials said.
No charges are pending, Bluffton Police Department spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz said. No other details about the investigation were available as of Monday morning.
Frazier’s family remembered him as always happy, a child whose smile could light up a room, his aunt Carletha Frazier Singleton wrote in a widely shared Facebook post. He loved running around and playing football with the Bluffton Bulldogs.
A candlelight vigil for Frazier on Thursday drew a large crowd that celebrated his life and supported his friends and family. His funeral services were Saturday.
Thousands of dollars have been raised for Frazier’s family through fundraisers at 12 Beaufort County School District schools (he was a student at M.C. Riley Elementary School) and individual donations to a PayPal account.
