UPDATE: Child dies from severe injuries after Bluffton Christmas Parade, officials say

A child died after being transported to the hospital with severe injuries from an incident involving the end of the Bluffton Christmas Parade, officials said.

The incident happened in the Red Cedar Elementary School parking lot, the ending point of the parade where all the floats and vehicles disbanded, Bluffton Police Department spokesperson Capt. Joe Babkiewicz said.

The child had been transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center by EMS, he said.

The Bluffton Police Department is investigating the incident.
