One of Old Town Bluffton’s popular restaurants is closed indefinitely closed after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 and confirmed cases continue to spike across the state.

Captain Woody’s Bar and Grill closed immediately after learning about the positive test, a Facebook post from the restaurant said Friday. The post also said all employees will be tested.

“We are taking this very seriously and following all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and guests,” it said. “ ... As we get the green light to come back we will begin the process to re-open.”

The Facebook post had more than 100 comments, more than a 100 shares, and more than 270 reactions as of Saturday morning.

Many of the comments praised the restaurant for being responsible and transparent, saying other establishments needed to do the same.

Captain Woody’s also has a location on Hilton Head Island, which appears to still be open and hosting a “social distance watch party” for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing being played in Sea Pines. The PGA Tour typically brings thousands of visitors to the island and draws in millions of dollars in revenue each year in April. But this year’s tournament was delayed and is being played without fans. One player tested positive for coronavirus since his arrival to Hilton Head.
