3rd Beaufort Co. resident dies from coronavirus as total cases rise to 148 Saturday
A third Beaufort County resident has died after being diagnosed with the coronavirus, according to a S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control news release on Saturday.
The county’s total number of cases increased by 17 between Friday and Saturday, bringing the total to 148.
DHEC has said the resident was elderly and had underlying health conditions. The age and city of residence of that person was not immediately available.
Two other Beaufort County residents died after being diagnosed with coronavirus earlier this week. An 81-year-old Beaufort man died Monday and a 72-year-old Beaufort man died Tuesday. Both men had underlying health conditions and were treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

54 cases are listed as unknown ZIP codes.
The data list a case in Ridgeland with the Beaufort County cases. That case is in 29936 ZIP code.
There are no cases listed for 29904 (a portion of Beaufort), 29940 (Seabrook), and 22941 (Sheldon).
The ZIP code for U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in Port Royal, 29905, is not included in the listing. On Monday, the base said there were more than 20 cases at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island. On Tuesday, the Department of Defense ordered military installations in South Carolina to stop making data about COVID-19 tests public.
In additional to releasing the amount of confirmed cases per ZIP code, DHEC is also planning to release an estimate of potential positive COVID-19 cases in each ZIP code. This number will reflect those who potentially have coronavirus, but are not diagnosed. That data will be released by Monday, the department’s website said.
