Coronavirus cases in Beaufort County at 131 on Friday. Here’s where they’re located
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Beaufort County increased slightly Friday to 131, and newly released data from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control shows where those cases area located.
The data includes ZIP code information for all of Beaufort County’s confirmed cases, starting with the county’s first three cases that were confirmed March 14.
The more detailed information was released Friday after S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster directed DHEC to release the number of positive COVID-19 cases associated with each county ZIP code.
In response, DHEC is also planning to release an estimate of potential positive COVID-19 cases in each ZIP code. This number will reflect those who potentially have coronavirus, but are not diagnosed. That data will be released by Monday, the department’s website said.
Here’s the breakdown of Beaufort County’s 131 confirmed cases by ZIP code (as of Friday):
12 are in Beaufort (29902)
11 are northwest of Beaufort (29906)
Nine are east of Beaufort (29907)
Seven are in Okatie (29909)
16 are in Bluffton (29910)
One is on Daufuskie Island (29915)
Seven are on St. Helena Island (29920)
12 are on Hilton Head (29926 and 29928)
Two are in Port Royal (29935)
One is in Yemassee (29945)
52 cases are listed as unknown ZIP codes.
The data list a case in Ridgeland with the Beaufort County cases. That case is in 29936 ZIP code.
There are no cases listed for 29904 (portion of Beaufort), 29940 (Seabrook), and 22941 (Sheldon).
The ZIP code for U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in Port Royal, 29905, is not included in the listing. On Monday, the base said there were more than 20 cases at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island. On Tuesday, the Department of Defense ordered military installations in South Carolina to stop making data about COVID-19 tests public.
As of Friday, Beaufort County had two coronavirus-related deaths. An 81-year-old Beaufort man died Monday and a 72-year-old Beaufort man died Tuesday. Both men had underlying health conditions and were treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
