3 more cases of coronavirus in Beaufort County Thursday, health officials say

Three new cases of coronavirus were reported in Beaufort County Thursday by S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control said.

The new cases rise the county’s total to 29.

The first cases were reported in Beaufort County on March 14.

There were 32 new cases statewide for a total of 456.

Two people died Thursday in the state, bringing the total to nine. None of the fatalities were in Beaufort County.

DHEC announced Thursday it expected 2,600 statewide cases by April 2 and 8,053 by May 2.

The cases are cumulative since the pandemic started and could increase or decrease based on measures used to prevent the spread.

DHEC and area hospitals, including Beaufort Memorial, Hilton Head and Coastal Carolina, have refused to answer questions about age and location of people who’ve tested positive or how they were exposed to the virus.

One of the coronavirus patients lives in Sun City Hilton Head, an email from the community’s board of directors said Wednesday.
