One of the Beaufort County residents who tested positive for coronavirus lives in Sun City Hilton Head.

An email from the community’s Board of Directors to residents on Tuesday acknowledged the case of COVID-19 but did not name the person or offer identifying details.

“The Board has been informed by a Sun City resident that they are one of the three confirmed cases in Beaufort County,” the email reads.

Since then, a fourth case has been confirmed in the county. As of Tuesday, South Carolina had 47 confirmed cases.

“The resident stated they are currently in quarantine. They also indicated DHEC took immediate steps to identify others who may have been in close contact and exposed to the virus,” the email reads.

It asks residents to respond by using “the time-tested practice of using common sense” to avoid large gatherings and following recommendations about social distancing.

Three emails and two phone calls since Tuesday to Sun City Hilton Head’s communications manager had not been answered by late afternoon Wednesday.

Sun City Hilton Head is a 55-and-older community with more than 16,000 residents. It’s located in the Okatie area with about 8,500 homes in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
