A former public school instructor is now offering after-school classes in string instrument instruction on Hilton Head Island.
Dominique Geer, director and teacher at Arco Music Academy, is leading classes in violin, viola, cello and bass, with introductory instruction in guitar. She is teaching classes at Island Lutheran Church, Hilton Head Christian Academy and Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts.
"I wanted to offer the access to string instruction to schools who have never had string programs or (schools) where programs no longer exist," Geer said. "I want my focus to be exclusively the music, not the grades."
The classes are for third-graders and older.

In addition to her current classes, Geer would like to eventually create an orchestra for young adults.
"Orchestra typically tops out in the 12th grade," Geer said. "I'm looking for kids who still want to play after graduating."
All classes are open to students from any school, not just the host schools.
